Welcome to my BLOG

I currently own a 2005 Kawasaki 1600 Nomad. This is my 6th bike and so far I love it. There always seems to be a hunt for the right bike that is the right fit for you. Thats why I have bought and sold many over the years. I hope to write about all my experience so you don't make the mistakes I have. Ride and Read on.

The other oil filter!

I was reading Gadgets Fixit Page and came across info on this other oil filter on my Nomad. I was do for an oil change so was eager to find out how much junk was in there. I am sure this filter wasn't checked since she left the factory. Bike has 20,000 Km and I bought her with 7,000 Km.

Find the cover on left side of bike:

Filter as it came out of the bike.
She had mostly paint flecks trapped in the filter.

This is how it should go back in after a cleaning.

Saddle bag liners from TLC Products.

Just bought some saddle bag liners from www.tlcproducts.com. Apparently the Kawasaki Fire and Steel liners are a fortune. These were like $50 Canadian including shipping. They are well made and come in a set. Each liners had a double zipper, small zipper pouch on inside and slot pouches down other side. Check out the pics.

Ultimate seats

Here is the pic of my Ultimate seats (Rider and Passenger) on my 2005 Nomad. Love the seats, I probably have 3 to 4 hundred kilometers on it so far. No numb butt.... Love it.

License Plate Bolts

I liked this idea after I seen 44 Cal. Bolts online at JP Cycles. I couldn't get any here in Canada but I could get nickel plated 9mm rounds. Anyhow after making some jigs for my lathe and some trial and error, I was very happy with how they turned out.
I used 1/4"-28 socket head bolts and once I shaved off a little they fit perfect inside the shell. A bit of epoxy  and I was finished.

The new "Ultimate Seat" versus Stock.

The seat on the left is stock and the one on the right is the "Ultimate seat" I hope this seat is as good as the reviews. Notice, I also got the back rest with pouch and a set of rain covers.

UPDATE: Well, had my 1st ride for the 2011 season. So far love the seat ( was only an hour) the real test will be all day ride. Much more comfortable than stock seat.
Note: On the Ultimate website I didn't notice the warning that the stock passenger seat will not fit with the Ultimate rider seat. So trying to save money I only ordered the riders seat... guess what is now on order..:-(

WARNING! the stock passenger seat will not fit with the Ultimate rider seat. You will have to order both unless you want a bare rear fender.

Ride on...

License Plate mount

For some reason my bike came with a large license plate holder / mount. It was made of black plastic and just plain big. Almost the size of a standard vehicle plate. Anyhow, I decided to make a replacement out of 1/16" stainless steel and keep the stock reflectors.

Old stock mount
New home made mount

The original mount is on top of the cargo rack in this pic. The new mount is in position where it is supposed to be above the tail light. I also made another small bracket for the side reflectors.

I had the two pieces done in a black gloss powder coat.

Another winter project finished.

Rifle scope ring to mount clock on handlebars

I had a rifle scope mount kicking around. It was the same diameter as my handle bars so I decided to use it as a mount. Works like a charm.
